Collaborations:

Georgia, trained Guide with the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy (ANFT), has guided and presented across Tennessee and beyond. She has been featured in the media discussing nature connection's benefits and has partnered with various institutions and platforms to spread the word.

Nature is here to help.

Mental refreshment

“Soft fascination,” what our brains experience when viewing nature, brings refreshment and replenishment.

Physical restoration

Blood pressure and cortisol (stress hormone) reductions as well as immune system boosting are evidence-based results from nature immersion.

Emotional regulation

Reduction in stress, hostility, anger, depression, and anxiety is shown via nature immersion research. Research also shows increase in awe and feeling a part of a bigger system.

Walks are 2–3 hour experiences distinct from hiking, nature education, or therapy — they're an invitation to slow down and meet the natural world in a new way. “The forest is the therapist, the guide just opens the doors,” ANFT notes. Every experience is unique as we, and nature, are always changing. We move through the land without an agenda or destination, learning to be present with what's already here, what's always been here.

Questions

Forest bathing isn't a bath in the woods but a worldwide practice gaining popularity as a facet of health and research-based healing.

What is forest bathing?

Forest bathing is simply taking in the atmosphere with the senses. We can bathe in the atmosphere of the land anytime if we tune in to our senses.

Forest Therapy is a guided forest bathing protocol created by ANFT Founder Amos Clifford who combined his love of this Japanese practice with his background in psychotherapy. Walks are 2-3 hour experiences and aren't hiking or nature identification. Forest Therapy forest bathing experiences are not psychotherapy sessions! Walks can be in a group or done individually with a guide.

Do I need special equipment or skills?

No experience, special gear, or clothing needed! Wear shoes and pants that are suitable for unpaved ground. Be prepared to sit or lie on the Earth, if you'd like to. Bring water for yourself, preferably in a small backpack so you can stay hands free. Sunscreen and low-fragrance bug spray are up to you.

What's your cancellation policy?

Forest bathing won't be held if there is a high chance of storm or strong wind. Georgia will be in touch with participants via email the night before if weather looks unsafe, and walks will be rescheduled.

Can't I just do this by myself?

Forest bathing is simply "bathing in the atmosphere of the forest," so yes! Anyone with senses of perception (sight, smell, sound, touch, etc..) can use those to experience an environment.

However, often, we're so disconnected from presence and ourselves that it's very useful to have a trained Guide invite us into a liminal headspace. Imagine the difference between going to a yoga class and trying to do yoga at home alone, from scratch, with no video instructor. ANFT Guides are intensively trained for months to learn how to invite walkers into their own unique experience. A lot goes into the guiding of a forest bathing walks that is unseen.

Can I learn more about the research?

Yes! Please nerd-out and find resources here. Research is ongoing. Find even more at the Association of Nature and Forest therapy website.

I'd love to discuss private walks, your private group, or media inquiries.
